HOWE CRA SPORTSMAN AND CRA STREET STOCKS READY TO RACE AT ANDERSON SPEEDWAY
Salem, IN (July 10, 2007) -- The Howe CRA Sportsman and CRA Street Stocks are ready to race at Anderson Speedway this Saturday night with heat races and 75 lap feature events for both series. Anderson Speedway was the sight of the very first Howe CRA Sportsman event ever held last season on April 9th. Al Cook Jr. took the victory in the 50-lap feature event on that Sunday, which was ran caution free, as were the two supporting heat races for that series.
The Howe CRA Sportsman return to Anderson Speedway with Billy Hutson as the series points leader and the winner of the series last event on Sunday, June 10th at Winchester Speedway. Saturday will be only the fourth event of the season so far for the Howe CRA Sportsman. Stuart Quakenbush won the season opener on May 5th at Winchester Speedway while Chad Richardson got the win on May 20th at Baer Field Speedway. Besides his win, Hutson has two third place finishes, which as helped put him on top the points so far this season. The New Haven, Indiana native made his CRA Super Series debut on June 30th at Angola Motor Speedway, but had his night end on lap 86 with brake issues.
Rookie competitor Gabe Cerny is currently second in points, 37 behind Hutson. Cerny finished second in the season opener, ninth at Baer Field Speedway, coming back after heavy damage in a heat race wreck and finished fourth in the June 10th event. The Wisconsin Cowboy Rick Tackman Jr. is in third place 48 points behind Hutson. Rookie competitor Tim Greene is in fourth, 56 points out of first while Rick Rinehart is fifth, 70 points out of first. T. J. Fisher is sixth in points, Bubba Trinkle is seventh, Eric Barkus is eighth, Darwin Wolfe is ninth and Charlie Hanna is in tenth despite suffering two blown motors the season.
Hoagland, Indiana native Shawn Bonar has taken over the CRA Street Stocks points lead after the series last event on June 10th at Winchester Speedway heading into this Saturday's 75 lap event at Anderson Speedway. Bonar has used steady finishes so far this season to put himself into position to take over the lead from 2006 series Champion Joe Beaver. Bonar's best finish to date was fourth place in the June 10th race were he came into the event tied with Brian Hopkins for fourth in points. Bonar left Winchester with the points lead after former leader Joe Beaver finished 13th two laps down and second place in points Beau Mitchell didn't show for the event, the third place Steve Davis owned team finished 21st with mechanical problems and Hopkins finished 24th after getting got up in an accident.
Veteran racer Rich Boyer has now moved into second in points 15 behind Bonar. Joe Beaver drops to third 19 points down to Bonar. The number 21 Steve Davis owned team is now fourth one point behind Beaver with rookie Larry Matillo now in fifth place 34 points out of first. Brian Hopkins is now sixth, followed by John Weisenaur in seventh, Jacob Owens in eighth, rookie Phil Evans in ninth and rookie John Robinson in tenth.
To date there have been four different winners in the series first four events. 2006 series Champion Joe Beaver and Frank Kimmel II got victories in the series first two events at Winchester Speedway, while veteran Ft. Wayne racer Steve Christman won the event at Baer Field Speedway on May 20th. Bubba Trinkle fought off Dean Baker to get his first series win at the June 10th event at Winchester Speedway. Chuck Cook has been a consistent front-runner after missing the series first event of the season. Cook has finished fourth and has two straight third place finishes after wining the All-Star Non-points event at Winchester Speedway on May 5th.
Rich Boyer was the winner of the two CRA Street Stock events held at Anderson Speedway during the 2006 season. Boyer won the 2006 season opening 250 lap event and the 150-lap event as part of the Anderson 400. Veteran Anderson Speedway racer Rod Phipps finished second to Boyer in both events in 2006. Joe Beaver finished in third in the 250-lap event while Brian Hopkins got third in the 150-lap event. The CRA Street Stocks were originally supposed to compete on Saturday, April 14th, but that event was canceled because of weather and rescheduled for this Saturday.
