ATLANTA (May 11, 2001) - If the American Speed Association (ASA) polled their most loyal fans asking them, "Who will win the ASA race at Concord Motorsports Park?", the vote would most likely go to driving sensation, Joey Clanton. With six events in the books for the 2001 ASA season, Joey Clanton, driving the No. 83 Zaxby's Real Chicken Chevrolet Monte Carlo, is the only driver to have won more than one race this season. Clanton won the season opener at St. Augustine Speedway, as well as the fourth race of the season at South Boston Speedway. Each of the other four races held to date this season have been won by four different drivers.
The American Speed Association is visiting the popular half-mile, high-banked, North Carolina tri-oval for the first time in its 34-year history. The track, located in the heart of stock car racing country, is known to be a tough track for drivers to maneuver.
Clanton has visited the asphalt of Concord Motorsports Park this year, testing the No. 83 Chevrolet Monte Carlo at the track in March. "Concord is a drivers' racetrack," stated Clanton. "You carry a lot of momentum around the track. There isn't a lot of stopping time, and it is all about driving well through the corners. I really like Concord. You can drive it hard and really see how your car performs."
Clanton feels the team is due for another victory. "The Steve Dale Motorsports team has been giving me great cars all season. We have had a great year, but I want another win for this team and our sponsor, Zaxby's Real Chicken."
Led by business entrepreneur, and racing enthusiast Steve Dale, Steve Dale Motorsports builds and races highly competitive winning cars. Based in Fayetteville, Ga., Steve Dale Motorsports has teams in both the American Speed Association and Legends Racing series.
The ASA will make their next appearance at Concord Motorsports Park on May 20. The most famous words in racing, "Gentlemen Start Your Engines", will be said promptly at 1:00 p.m. EST. The seventh event on the 2001 ASA schedule will be aired live on The National Network (TNN).
