McCumbee wins at Coastal Plains.
Chad McCumbee is on his winning streak again after taking the checkers in the rescheduled fifty lap race at Coastal Plains Raceway on Sunday, April 28th. The race was slated for Saturday night along with the Hooters Pro Cup 150 and both were delayed until the next day due to rain and high winds. Race starting positions were by National Points. McCumbee in his #20 Thunderbird sponsored by Coastal Vinyl & Aluminum started from the pole and led every lap. Danny Keaton in the #11 MECO car held second place for the first 20 laps until Jerame Donley in the #5 Lacy J. Miller machine took over second place. Keaton finished in third. Chase Miller in the #15 Team Marietta Ford finished fourth and Sam Yarbrough #27 in the Yarbrough Builders ride rounded out the top 5. Miller, the top rookie of the race, has finished in the fourth spot in every National race so far this season.
Michael Cooper #68, Cooper Family Ford, was the Hard Charger of the Race moving up from last place to the sixth place position. Ray Andrews #19 from Manassas Park, Virginia brought out the only caution of the day when a heim joint broke causing him to ride the wall in turn two. Andrews has carried he St. Jude Childrens Hospital name on his car since he began racing in the Legacy Series several years ago acknowledging the charity. Local driver Bobby Snow, a former marine from Jacksonville, North Carolina finished in ninth place.
McCumbee remains the National Points leader with 406 points. Rookie Chase Miller is in second with 361 and Danny Keaton is third with 315. The National Touring Series goes to San Antonio Speedway on May 18th for the Johnson Components 100.
