Clanton Races for the Points Lead

ATLANTA (June 11, 2001) - Joey Clanton is hoping to gain 64 crucial points this weekend during the American Speed Association's (ASA) race to be held at I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Missouri. Those 64 points are all that separate Clanton and the Steve Dale Motorsports team from the top spot in the ASA driver's point standings.

With eight races completed in the 2001 ASA season, the No. 83 has 12 races to prove to the rest of the field that they are the top team in the prestigious short track series. The Steve Dale Motorsports team has already made a statement this year by winning two races, winning one pole and leading 660 laps.

If the last race, held at Nashville Speedway USA, is an indication of what's to come, Clanton and the No. 83 Zaxby's Real Chicken Chevrolet Monte Carlo should be in good shape to take the points lead. Clanton brought home another podium-third place in Nashville, Tenn., and his fourth top-five finish in the 2001 season.

Clanton will be making his second appearance at I-70 Speedway in as many years on the ASA circuit. The track is similar to Nashville Speedway USA, both tracks are high banked, very fast, and just over a half-mile in length.

"I-70 is almost exactly like Nashville Speedway USA, which we just raced on," stated Clanton. "We had a good finish at Nashville, and I am hoping for the same or better at I-70. We are going to hope for another podium finish which will help us with our ultimate goal, to win the 2001 championship."

The American Speed Association's own website will be the title sponsor for the June 16 ASARacing.com 300. I-70 Speedway will begin racing action promptly at 9:00 p.m. EST, with a live broadcast to be aired on The National Network (TNN).
