Warranty Gold teams up with ASA rookie Casey Smith for Toledo
New sponsor is excited that the teen is coming off of best-career finish
AUSTIN, TX (May 12, 2003) -- Casey Smith and Dave Marcis don't have a whole heck of a lot in common. Marcis is a successful veteran of the stock car racing world. Smith, on the other hand, is one of the hottest up-and-coming racers on the Motorsports scene. Yet now they share a common bond: the sponsorship of Warranty Gold.
The 18-year-old Smith will be backed by Warranty Gold, a vehicle service contract company, in the next American Speed Association race, the Glass City 300 at Toledo Speedway (OH) on May 18th.
Smith is hot in ASA competition right now. He has two-straight top-10 finishes, including a career-best third place finish in Lanier, GA, two weeks ago. The team is hoping another good showing could keep Warranty Gold on the car for the rest of the year, something Smith needs in his pursuit of the $50,000 ASA Rookie of the Year honors.
"I am ecstatic that Warranty Gold has joined up with us for the Toledo event," said Smith, who has three top-15 finishes in three ASA starts this season. "This is the kind of shot in the arm this team needs. We have been making some major improvements since the start of the season, both on and off the track. We know our race team is getting there; it was pretty evident with our race in Lanier. We know we can win, so all we need is a little help behind us to push us over the top and Warranty Gold is just the type of company to do it for us.
"We want to go to Toledo with everything lined up to get another top-five finish and be there at the end to compete for the win like we were at Lanier. We want to get Warranty Gold up front and recognized by the entire SPEED Channel viewing audience and all those great fans in attendance. Once Warranty Gold sees how professional our team and this entire series are, we think they will be very satisfied."
Warranty Gold is a privately held company located in Austin, Texas. On the Internet since 1996, Warranty Gold is the original online provider of vehicle service contracts. Warranty Gold was founded on the concept that consumers want to take more control when purchasing supplementary items related to their automobile. The premise: to provide the consumer a means to directly purchase extended service contracts via the internet, thereby bypassing the high dealer markup and receiving the discounts directly. This direct sales method allows customers to save as much as 60 percent off dealership plans. Warranty Gold has been involved in Motorsports with several different drivers, including stock car racing legend and NASCAR Winston Cup winner Dave Marcis.
Smith hopes to improve on his third-place run at Lanier National Speedway in late April where he had the fastest car on the track late in the race. Just as Smith took the lead less than 50 laps from the end, he was bumped out of the way by the second-place car. Even at 18-years-old, Smith showed the maturity of a veteran and marched his way back to the third position.
The Glass City 300 is set for 3:00 pm (ET) Sunday, May 18th and will be seen live on SPEED. ASA practice and pole qualifying is scheduled for Sat.
