Blair and Miller Open CARS Goodyear Era With Wins

CLERMONT, Ind. (May 10, 2004) -- Steve Blair and Tom Miller collected victories as the Championship Auto Racing Series opened the 2004 season at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

It was the first race for the CARS Turbines, Inc. Stock Car division and Voris Construction Super Truck division on Goodyear tires. Both divisions set track qualifying records.

Drivers frequently drive in both the truck and car classes. Blair had a big night, winning the Stock Car feature and besting the Super Truck field in qualifying.

Blair's 25.004-second (98.74 mph) lap in qualifying was a full half-second under the existing record. The Super Truck Series uses the Goodyear D2562 and D2563 asphalt racing slicks.

Scott Tomasik was the fastest qualifier in the Stock Car division with a lap of 24.316 seconds (101.56 mph). Tomasik's lap was nearly a second under the old record. The Stock Cars use Goodyear's D2271 and D1111, also eight-inch tires.

The tires for both classes are eight inches wide and provide superior grip levels. Wes Bullock finished second to Blair in the Stock Car feature. Toby Cooper was third, followed by Dave Bussie and Chip Powell.

Miller's victory was his first in the CARS truck series. Joe Axsom was second. John Wicks took third and earned his best career finish. Dave Baldwin finished fourth and Jared Waldhoff came home fifth.
