WARD HOLDS OFF JOHNSON FOR POPULAR VICTORY AT BREWERTON SPEEDWAY

BREWERTON, NY...Pat Ward earned a popular victory at Brewerton Speedway last Friday night. Ward held off Alan Johnson to claim the 35-lap DIRT Big Block Modified feature win in front of a large crowd at the D-shaped DIRT Demon on a hot summer night. The $2,000 victory was the first of the season for the driver of the LJL Racing Gypsum Express entry.

DIRT Big Block Modified rookie driver Joe Isabell raced out to the early lead at the start of the main event from the outside pole starting position. Isabell was running strong and would lead the opening 14 circuits. Matt Sheppard took the top spot away from Isabell on lap-15. Sheppard attempted to pull away from the field, but soon had Pat Ward in tow.

It was on lap-27 when Ward took the top spot away from Sheppard. This time it was Ward who had company in moving to the front. Alan Johnson passed Sheppard for the second position on lap-30. The stage was set for another Johnson late race victory, but Ward had no part of it. Ward held off Johnson to earn the popular win at the D-shaped DIRT Demon.

Johnson had to settle for second with Jimmy Phelps, Sheppard and Steve Hulsizer completing the top five feature finishers. Scott Prentice, Joe Isabell, Billy Decker, Tim Fuller and Chuck Bower were the sixth through tenth place finishers in the Brewerton all-star field.

Shawn Donath, Sam Reakes IV, Jeremy Pitcher and Roy Bresnahan completed the top five in the official order of finish. Reakes led the first 15-laps of the main event. Hefti was unable to slip under Reakes for the lead on lap-16. The DIRT Sportsman will return to Brewerton Speedway on Friday, July 28.

Rob Keller won his fourth 20-lap IMCA Modified feature race of the season last Friday night. Johnny Hill, Kevan Cook, Les Hubbard and Dale Caswell finished in positions second through fifth respectively. Pete Anderson led the opening two circuits of the main event. Keller took the top spot from Anderson on lap three. Hill led laps five through seven, but Keller came back to the top spot for good on lap eight.

Dan Williams won his second straight 20-lap ESDCA Mod Lite main event last Friday night. Jeff Isabell Jr., Kevin Donhauser, Tim Devendorf and Doug Williams followed the winner across the finish line. Mike Isabell led the first seven circuits of the feature race. Jeff Isabell Jr. led the field on laps eight and nine. Dan Williams made the winning move on lap-10.
