VERNON, NY - New Utica-Rome Speedway's regular contingent of DIRT 358 Modifieds have a special reason to race with the Big Block Modifieds on Thursday August 24 during the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series 100-lap event, sponsored by Nice N' Easy Grocery Shoppes.
The first four 358 Modifieds to finish the race will earn bonus dollars in addition to the regular layout for the evening. The first Small Block will earn $250 extra, the second will earn $200 extra, the third will earn $150 extra, and the fourth Small Block to finish the race will earn an additional $100. The winner's share of the hefty purse will be $6000, and all drivers that take the green will earn at least $650. New Utica-Rome track points for the 358 Modifieds will not be awarded for this race, and non-ported 358 Modifieds that race with the Big Blocks must weigh 2550 lbs.
New Utica-Rome Speedway track promoter Eric Kingsley anticipates a star studded field of DIRT's best in the Big Block division from all over the Northeast. Race fans can expect to see former track champions Kenny Tremont Jr., Dave Lape, Brett Hearn, Jack Johnson, plus Danny Johnson, Alan Johnson, Ronnie Johnson, Andy Bachetti, Bob McCreadie, Tim McCreadie, Bobby Varin, Butch Tittle, Gary Balough, Steve Paine, Pat Ward, Tim Fuller, Mitch Gibbs, Billy Decker, Doug Hoffman, and Jerry Higbie Jr. It will be a night to remember at Utica-Rome, and many race fans are very excited and looking forward to this huge event, which will be the first Big Block Modified race at Utica-Rome since 1987.
Also in action the same evening will be the DIRT Sportsman division in a $500 to win non-point 20-lap feature event. A huge turnout of Sportsman is expected because no other track is running on the same night and plus the race will be a great tune up for UFPO "Dig Safely" Sportsman Super DIRT Series event on Sunday August 27.
The gates on Thursday August 24 will open at 4pm, with time trials starting at 6:15pm, and racing beginning at 7pm. A very large crowd is expected so try to get there early!
