Doug Finley led the field down for the green flag for the 150-lap event at Auto City, Monday, July 3. Mike Laberta Jr from his outside pole position jumped into the lead but the driver’s received the caution flag before completing a lap when rookie Johnny Belott went over the turn one banking. On the complete restart Bellot and Todd Rosebraugh tangled enlisting another complete restart. Laberta Jr again leapt into the lead. A competitive first half of the event ensued with the top six or seven drivers battling amongst themselves. Finally on lap 68, Scott Hantz moved around Laberta Jr for the lead. Two laps later Laberta Jr parked his car with ignition problems. At the halfway point the race was red flagged and the cars were allowed to pit to refill their fuel cells. Only 12 of the 20 starters were still running at the halfway point. When racing resumed Hantz pickup where he left off but nine laps later Steve Sauve whipped around him for the lead and immediately began pulling away. The only drivers that got close to Sauve the remaining laps were the cars he was lapping. There were nine cars running at the end of the 150-lap race, four of which were on the lead lap.
