NYSSCA membership drive set for this summer at Utica-Rome Speedway.
VERNON, NY -- The New York State Stock Car Association (NYSSCA) is currently accepting new memberships and renewals from drivers, car owners, crewmembers, sponsors, race fans, and officials for the 2002-racing season at Utica-Rome Speedway.
NYSSCA is much heralded non-profit association to help the drivers currently racing at Utica-Rome, Lebanon Valley, Fonda, Devils Bowl, Albany-Saratoga, and Afton Speedways. NYSSCA needs your support to help award the drivers for sportsmanship and dedication to the sport.
Speedway management encourages drivers in all divisions and everyone else involved at the track to become NYSSCA members as it is truly a fantastic organization for the betterment of dirt track stock car racing and remembrance of racing's past in all of New York State.
Every NYSSCA driver member receives access to the injured driver's fund ($100 a week payable for 26 weeks), eligibility for NYSSCA awards, a NYSSCA membership card, and a monthly newsletter. Every NYSSCA member track has a Safety Awards Night where cash awards are given to the first NYSSCA member across the line in the feature for every division. These awards are contingent on NYSSCA membership in good standing and display of the NYSSCA decal on the racecar.
NYSSCA's main racing function of the year is always the traditional Season Awards Banquet held in Albany every January. Just last year at the banquet, fifteen of Utica-Rome's top drivers from the 2001 season were honored, alongside some of the legends of dirt racing, at the prestigious and always memorable event. Each division received awards in three categories: Driver of the Year, Outstanding Performance, and Newcomer f the Year. Top drivers from Utica-Rome's past in the NYSSCA Hall of Fame include the legendary "Rapid Roman" Richie Evans, Jerry Cook, Dick Clark, Ed Flemke, Bill Wimble, and "The Champ" Rene Charland.
Last summer during the NYSSCA Hall of Fame night at Utica-Rome, locals Sonny Seamon, Bernie Miller, and Jon Button were inducted to the prestigious Hall of Fame in front of family and friends. It was a very successful Old Timer's Reunion and Hall of Fame ceremony, and the speedway thanks NYSSCA for helping make it happen. Over $400 in cash awards were distributed by NYSSCA to the drivers that evening as well.
On Sunday August 4 at Utica-Rome, NYSSCA will hold their Safety Awards night and it will again coincide with the track's 3rd annual "Night of Legends Reunion". In addition, NYSSCA will also reward the highest finishing NYSSCA member in the feature events with a bonus $50 for every division.
NYSSCA is not only for drivers, and all members can benefit from this great non-profit racing organization. For more information and for a membership form, go to NYSSCA on the web at www.nyssca.com or see NYSSCA Track Representatives/Gater News columnists Ed and Betty Biittig, NYSSCA preseident John Keegan, or Doug Zupan at the track this summer.
