Oswego, NY With the late 2002 announcement of the California-based Lucas Oil Products joining the International Supermodified Association as a major sponsor, things are looking very bright for the upcoming 2003 race season. Lucas has long been directly involved in the American racing industry through multiple vehicle sponsorships and racing event promotions, at all levels. Lucas racing products have proven themselves on NASCAR, NHRA, IHRA, USHRA and ATPA tracks across the country and now become involved with the ultra-fast winged supermodifieds by helping to back the ISMA organization, which opens its season at Star Speedway on Saturday, May 3.

Forrest Lucas and his wife Charlotte founded Lucas Oil Products in 1989. Prior to that Forrest was a truck driver and he and his wife also owned a long haul trucking fleet. Seeing a need for better lubricants in this industry, the Lucas people went to work. The end result being a line of high performance engine oils and gear oils that is second-to-none in the racing industry. Lucas is also one of the fastest growing additive lines in the consumer automotive industry. A premium line of oils, greases and problem solving additives has helped to firmly establish Lucas as a prominent figure in this marketplace.

The Lucas success story has been built upon hard work, an unparalleled line of premium products and an unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction. This philosophy certainly goes hand-in-hand with the ISMA organization, which has evolved, into one of the most respected traveling groups in the country.

The Lucas Oil sponsorship will allow for a $50,000 2003 point fund with the ISMA champion receiving $10,000 at the awards banquet on November 8 at Turning Stone Casino. Additional sponsorships are still flowing into the ISMA coffers with a recent announcement by West Coast supermodified owner Rod Rathgarn. Rathgarn has agreed to pay an additional $500 to the 21st finisher in points at season-end. There will also be payouts to the 3 Regional Champions.

As stated, ISMA opens its 17-race schedule at Star Speedway in New Hampshire, May 3 with a second show that weekend at Seekonk (Mass.) Speedway on May 4.

A new doubleheader this season will be the Friday, May 23 Kawartha Speedway (Ont.) show, which precedes the traditional Jim Shampine Memorial 50 at the Oswego Speedway on May 24.

The only two-race weekend in June finds the ISMA winged warriors out in Ohio at Toledo Speedway on Friday, June 13 and then heading to one of the hotbeds of supermodified racing, Sandusky Speedway on Saturday, June 14.

July and August each host four events on the ISMA slate. July 11 and 12 finds the supers back in Canada for a return to Kawartha and the sole trip to Cayuga Speedway in Nelles Corners on Saturday, July 12. Sandusky Speedway is next up with the traditional Hy-Miler doubleheader on Friday and Saturday July 25 and 26.

August starts out with a solo trip to Lancaster Speedway in Lancaster, NY on August 2 for a 50-lapper at that half-mile oval. On Friday, August 15 and August 16, the ISMA cars head back into New England for races at Lee USA Speedway and Oxford Plains respectively. August ends with the ISMA Nationals 50 at Oswego Speedway on the 30th in conjunction with the famed Bud Classic weekend there.

Equally famous in its tradition, is the Star Speedway Classic 200 the longest event on the schedule , which occurs on Saturday, Sept. 6. Continuing with tradition, ISMA heads to the Seekonk Speedway for aSaturday, September 27 show, which has been added to their schedule.

The final weekend of the season, which is often the champion decider, occurs on October 18 and 19 at the historic Thompson Speedway in Connecticut.
