Great races at Velopark award Daniel Serra and Max Wilson with victories

Lots of position changes and plenty of action thrilled the public in the South of Brazil this Sunday at the shortest race track in the Brazilian Stock Car calendar.

The Velopark Circuit held the third round of the 2015 season of Brazilian Stock Car Championship. The shortest track of the calendar was the stage for two great races this Sunday afternoon in the southern part of the country. Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Serra won the 47-lap long race with Marcos Gomes second and Julio Campos third. In the second race, 26 laps-long with 10-reversed grid positions, Eurofarma-RC’s Max Wilson made it through and got the highest step in the podium in front of Cacá Bueno and once again, Julio Campos.

I had some push-to-pass to use, and in the other hand the Safety Car gave me the opportunity to save fuel.

Max Wilson

Serra took advantage of his push-to-pass and overtook polesitter Marcos Gomes. With Julio Campos on the Voxx Racing’s driver neck switching to P2 and P3 for the whole race, the Red Bull driver won for the third time at the Velopark circuit and holds the record of victories at the 2.278 km-long track. Starting from 24th position on the grid, Max Wilson made a great recovery to finish 10th and get the advantage to start from pole position in race two.

And he wasn’t bothered by his competitors, as he had his team-mate Ricardo Maurício behind until the #90 driver had a puncture but made it to the pits to make a tyre change. Even with the Safety Car (caused by Rafa Matos crash on lap 15), Bueno thought about the points that still keep him in the lead of the standings.

The fourth round of Brazilian Stock Car Championship will be held at Curitiba, on May 31st.

Drivers quotes

Daniel Serra (Red Bull Racing), winner of Race 1: "Race 1 was really tough. I had that gap on Marcos Gomes, but he and Julio Campos were changing positions the whole time. The push-to-pass button gives you a lot of power here and it was possible to gain 0s6 only in the straights. While I was in the lead, I tried to save for race 2, but I was on the edge all the way to the end. In the podium the three of us were done. Then, in the second race things went really well, I was on the right place at the right time and P4 was an excellent result, which gave us lots of points".

Max Wilson (Eurofarma-RC), winner of Race 2: "Well, it’s never easy. Competition is always really strong. It is true that Race 2 begun a little smoother for me, but the Safety Car put everyone together again. I had some push-to-pass to use, and in the other hand the Safety Car gave me the opportunity to save fuel".
