Sodus, NY - The 2000 Woodard's Concrete Products/Central New York Mini Sprint (CNYMS) Tour stopped at Whip City in Westfield, MA, on July 22 for a battle between track and tour regulars. Twenty-seven teams answered the call, and Whip City track regular Kevin Weeks (Westfield, MA) took home top honors, winning the caution plagued 20 lap feature. Weeks was the fifth different winner is as many CNYMS feature races this season. Doug Norie (West Suffield, CT) and Ray Legary (Hampden, MA) occupied the front row for the feature event. Legary wheeled to the front when the green flag flew, the position he held well into the race. When a late race caution flew, it was Legary, Weeks and Norie holding down the top three spots. During the ensuing caution laps, Legary suddenly exited off the front straight, out of fuel. Weeks inherited and kept the lead to the checkered flag. Rich Wood, Jr (Enfield, CT) came back from a mid race spin to take the runner-up position. Norie held on to third, followed by William D'Innocuzo fourth, and Troy Slock (Jeffersonville, VT) rounding out the top five. Heat race winners were John Lieto, Wood, and Legary. Roland Huot (Westfield, MA) took the B-main. CNYMS tour points leader Mike Emhof (Sodus, NY) battled from his 24th starting position to take sixth position in the feature, and was the top finishing CNYMS regular. He widened his points lead over P.J. Peworchik (Binghamtom, NY), who maintained the points runner-up position. Paul James (Albany, NY) stayed third in points, and Bob Scaccio (Suffern, NY) and Brian Burns (West Shokan, NY) moved up to fourth and fifth, respectively. William Jaycox (Cobleskill, NY) is leading in the rookie points ranking. CNYMS teams will travel to Fulton (NY) Speedway on July 29 to run the "Mid Summer Mini Sprint Sizzler," which was postponed on July 15 because of rain. Papa Joe's Restaurant and Sodas Bay Tackle and Outfitters, both of Sodus Point, NY, will sponsor the special mini sprint event. The mini sprint feature race at Fulton will pay $650 to win and $75 to take the green flag, based on a 24-car field. The race entry fee will be $35 per car for all drivers holding a valid mini sprint license (CNYMS, AMSA, Outlaw Mini Sprints, etc.). All feature race non-qualifiers will receive $25 in tow money. The race is sanctioned by CNYMS, so club rules will apply to the race. The next night (July 30), CNYMS teams will visit Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna, PA, for another make-up race. Rain had forced postponement of a special Independence Day Weekend show for the mini sprints at Reed Miller's facility.
