Virginia Sprint Series Race ...
Virginia Sprint Series Race #6 Saturday May 27th 2000 311 Motor Speedway Madison,North Carolina
Jason Shultz showed the field how much he liked the wide open high banked 311 Motor Speedway by taking the lead at half way and rolling on for the win at the series' inaugural event at the North Carolina speedway. The night started as a hot one as during the two hard fought heat races, won by John Thomas and Bronzie Lawson, the VSS racers got the feel for the just how fast and raceable the 311 track really is.
The feature lined up with lightning and thunder as a back drop with Lawson and Thomas on the front row. When the green waved Lawson got the jump and looked to be a sure winner but the racers starting in the pack were on the way and by lap ten Lawson was no longer alone at the front. Shultz shot into the lead at half way and Lawson now showed signs of car trouble and began to slow.
Even a caution for a stalled car was no help for the field as Shultz was able to keep a cushion on the charging pack as they lapped cars in heavy traffic. Shultz went on to take the win followed by Mary Ann Williams, Bo Reiner, Bill Rice, Jerald Harris, John Thomas, Dick Stevens, Wayne Jones, John Johnson, Pete Kingrea, Charlie Kingrea, Gary Snow, George Johnston, Bobby Fink, Bronzie Lawson, Buddy Parker, Scott Murrell, Tim Hamlet and French Grimes.
The VSS racers will be back in action again at Eastside Speedway in Waynesboro VA, on June 17th
