HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (July 11, 2002) - On Saturday night, July 20th, the Hardeeville Motor Speedway all-time one lap track record will surely fall when the USCS Winged Outlaw Sprint Cars come to town. The current one-lap track record is held by Corey Fletcher of Bloomingdale, GA in a dirt-style Late Model at 14.330 seconds on November 24, 2001. With the Outlaw Sprint Cars capable of reaching speeds in excess of 140 m.p.h., that record is almost guaranteed to fall by at least 1.5 seconds, maybe more. The Sprint Cars drivers who have the best chance of breaking the one-lap record are defending United Sprint Car Series champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee and Kenny Adams from Malabar, Florida. The USCS Winged Outlaw Sprint Car program will include hot laps, qualifying time trials, heat races, and a big 40 lap A-main event. Race fans will also see the INEX Thunder Roadsters, Legends Cars, Xtreme Stock Cars and Road Warriors in action on Saturday night.

The event is expected to bring top winged outlaw sprint car drivers from at least six states to the speedway with their exotic fire breathing, alcohol burning 700+ Horsepower open wheel cars weight approximately 1,300 pounds. It is not uncommon to see these powerful vehicles popping wheelies or doing wheel stands because of the brute force of their engines and their huge 18-inch wide rear tires.

The United Sprint Car Series (U.S.C.S.) sanctions and promotes winged outlaw style sprint car racing at major venues in the United States on asphalt and dirt ovals. The U.S.C.S. contested 31 events in 8 states on 25 different speedways in 2001. The series averaged 26 cars per event. One hundred and seventy-eight (178) different drivers from 16 states and two foreign countries competed in the series during 2001. The typical event had drivers from 7 - 9 states competing in the events.

The 2002 U.S.C.S. Schedule has the series staging 40 events (13 on asphalt and 27 + on dirt) at 30 different venues in 9 states. This will take the series to over 25 major and intermediate size media markets with repeats in some. Several major National events are on the schedule including the North vs. South Shootouts and the U.S.C.S. Airflow Research Super Power Dash.

The cars competing in U.S.C.S. events are almost identical in appearance to the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series entries seen on national television broadcasts, aired frequently by The National Network (TNN) and those of the United States Auto Club tm, aired by ESPN.

Heavy hitter entries include: The sprint car driver each of the past seasons who has won the most A-main features, defending USCS Asphalt series champion, Kenny Adams, from Malabar, Florida. Adams, who has 58 wins in all competition since the beginning of the 2000 season.

Adams, who was also named 2000's National "Driver of the Year" by the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame pollsters, will have his hands full with a host of challengers from across the nation to include 2001 USCS National Champion Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee. Gray has eight National Championships to his credit and over 250 feature wins. Gray finished in the runner-up spot in the Sprint Car Hall of Fame poll in 2001 and had 14 wins on the season. Adams teammate, 1997 series champion Red Stauffer of Winter Park, Florida, is also entered.

Gates open on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., qualifying begins at 6:00 p.m. followed by the National Anthem at 7:05 p.m. General admission ticket prices are $15.00 for adults; $10.00 for Juniors (ages 13-16), Seniors (55 and older) and Military (with proper I.D.); $5.00 for children (ages 6-12); and children under 5 are free.

The Hardeeville Motor Speedway is located three miles south of I-95 (exit 5 in SC) on Highway 17 / Speedway Blvd. or just ten miles north of Savannah on Highway 17 / Speedway Blvd. For more information, contact (843) 784 RACE (7223) or visit online at www.hardeevillespeedway.com.
