Sodus, NY - They couldn't have written a better script for the 2000 Woodard's Concrete Products/Central New York Mini Sprint (CNYMS) Tour opener. After three consecutive tour date rainouts, the 10th anniversary season for CNYMS finally got underway June 3 at Frogtown International Speedway, in Hogansburg, NY. Tim Smythe, from nearby Malone, NY, racing in front of family and friends, captured the mini sprint feature for his first tour victory, in this his first year as a tour regular. His mini sprint sported the colors of Malone (NY) NAPA, his primary sponsor, who also happened to co-sponsor the entire race program at Frogtown that night. Smythe won his heat race, and in the feature, powered from his outside pole starting position to take the early lead. He was never seriously challenged to the checkered flag. The closest racing early on was for the second through fourth spots, as tour regulars A. J. Bagozzi (Camillus, NY), P.J. Peworchik (Binghamton, NY), Dennis Fink (Germantown, NY) and Paul James (Albany, NY) battled back and forth. However, the red flag flew when Bagozzi's mini sprint landed upside down in turn 3. Peworchik later left with a flat right rear tire. James held on for a strong second place finish, with tour newcomer Anthony Cain (Fairfax, VT) third. Fink finished fourth, followed by Jimmy Lawler (Sackett's Harbor, NY) to round out the top five. Peworchik won the other heat race. The CNYMS tour will travel to Albany-Saratoga Speedway on June 9th for the opening race of the 2000 Dow Corning/Kaman Industrial Technologies CVRA Mini Sprint Challenge Cup, presented by HSBC. The feature race will pay $650 to win, and $75 to take the green. The race is sponsored by Carriage Traders of South Glens Falls, NY.
