'TK' Looks to Repeat as Cotton Classic Champion

HANFORD, CA (November 8) -- With a week to put the disappointment of a 30-cent part costing him a $30,000 payday in the Budweiser Oval Nationals behind him, Tim Kaeding will return to Kings Speedway in hopes of winning the Cotton Classic for the second time in six years.

"TK" was leading last Saturday's USAC/CRA event at Perris Auto Speedway when an injector spring broke and eventually caused the #10 Tom Rolfe Trucking Maxim to crash.

Kaeding, who pulled off a thrilling last-lap pass of Tommy Tarleton to win the 2002 Cotton Classic, roared into second place from the back of the pack after spinning on the first lap a year ago. He's looking forward to returning to winged sprint cars powered by 410-cubic-inch engines.

"We're going to run the 410 car at Hanford this weekend and, the next weekend, we'll run at Tulare (Thunderbowl Raceway) in the Trophy Cup," Tim said. "The Cotton Classic was rained when we were in 'Vegas (October 27th), and they rescheduled it for this weekend.

"It will give me a chance to get my winged ribbon back, instead of running the non-winged cars. I'm comfortable in both cars, but I'm just a wing guy. I've always been a wing guy because that's the kind of racing I enjoy the most. It will be interesting next year when we run 20 or 25 non-winged races."
