The 1/3 mile racing surface was fast and smooth Saturday Night as the # 12 Big Tree Nursery/Kelly Trucking Stanton of David "Skeeter" Kelly opened the Winged Sprints show with a great run in heat # 1."Skeeter" took the green by blasting bye RC Roper #92 Keels & Wheels/Hayloft Western Wear & Wood Motor Company Special Jenkins from the outside of row one to go on unchallenged to claim the win.Kelly was followed by Roper, the Staggs Tire Service #11 of Andy Kelly and 15 year old sensation Tyler Godwin in the American Well Drilling # 4 Schnee "Grandpa's" Special.
"Wild Man" Tony Pinero driving the Black # 3 Jani-King Special from Plant City led from the Pole to just nip the # 52 Kreidler Racing J&J Chassis driven by Shane Kreidler from Jupiter who was followed by the #32 Steven Darvalics and #6 J&J Chassis /Slammers Sports Bar Sprinter of Mike Shroeder from Ormand Beach.
The feature event saw #92 RC Roper "The Racin Cowboy" start alongside "Wild Man" Tony Pinero # 3 on the front row with the #52 Shane Kreidler and the #12 David "Skeeter" Kelly dead on their Heels in row 2.As the green flag dropped Roper and Pinero hooked wheels coming to the green flag which produced a very tense moment as the crowd stood and cheered the drivers on.Tony lost traction momentarily which allowed Roper to power on bye for the lead.RC then stretched his lead to over 3 secs over the pack. There was one heck of a battle for 2nd thru 5th brewing behind Roper as "Wildman" Pinero was fighting hard to keep his position and the #52 of Shane Kreiler was determined to get it.As this was going on brothers Andy and "Skeeter" Kelly were waging a "War" of thier own for 4th and 5th.Caution flew for Tack debris on Lap 13 which bunched up the cars.Again Roper managed to get a clean start and pull away until a caution for Tyler Godwin came out as Tyler blew a radiator and steamed bellowed from underneath his car.Tyler was un-injured and the race was restarted with 1 to go.Roper went on the take his second win of 2003.Pinero held on for second closely followed by Shane Kreidler,Skeeter Kelly,David Kelly and Steven Darvalics making his first top 5 of his career. The Winged Sprints are back in action on Saturday March 29.
