KREITZ WINS SUSQUEHANNA BATTLE - LANCE DEWEASE WINS WAR
Sinking Spring's Donnie Kreitz Jr. grabbed the lead at the drop of the green and led all 30 laps to pick up his second win of the season Tuesday night in the Pennsylvania Speedweek finale at Susquehanna Speedway.
But it was Mont Alto's Lance Dewease who won the big prize.
Dewease, who was tied with Millerstown's Todd Shaffer atop the eight-race Pennsylvania Speedweek Series point standings, came home in second place and in the process wrapped up his third-career Pennsylvania Speedweek point crown.
Dewease, who won Speedweek titles in 1997 and 1999, rode on a wave of consistancy as he garnered a win, three second place finishes, a third, a fourth, a fifth, and a sixth en route to a 38 point advantage over Shaffer in the final Speedweek point standings (Dewease - 1111 points to Shaffer's 1073 points).
Shaffer, one of the hotest drivers in the area over the past month, was looking to claim his first-ever Speedweek title. But his chances all but ended on the first lap of the feature when he was involved in a crash that sent him to the rear of the 22-car starting feature fiield.
Shaffer, who had registered two wins, a second, a fourth, a fifth, a seventh, and an 11th place finish prior to the Speedweekweek finale, charged back through the field to finish ninth - falling short of the title by a mere 38 points in the final standings.
Greg Hodnett rode home third, with two-time Speedweek winner Keith Kauffman finishing fourth - good enough for the Mifflintown racer to finish third overall in the finale Speedweek standings.
Defending Speedweek Champion Fred Rahmer, who was shut out of victory lane during the week-long series, finished fifth.
Completeing the top-10 were Johnny Mackison Jr., Shawn Keen, Niki Young, Todd Shaffer, and Bobby Weaver. Heats were won by Shaffer, Jeff Rohrbaugh, and Rahmer, with Cris Eash setting fast time in time trials.
Tom Myers won the late model feature over Scott Haus and Steve Campbell. <pre>
