Stutts will Kickoff 410 Career at Kickoff of Selinsgrove Series March 19

3/3/04 - The start of the 3rd edition of the Susquehanna Valley 410 Sprint Series at Selinsgrove Speedway on March 19 will also mark the beginning of another chapter in the driving career of one of the speedway's 358-sprint stars, TJ Stutts. Gates for the first of the six-date series open at 6 p.m. with racing slated for 8.

At 23 years of age, Stutts has committed himself to running the entire Selinsgrove 410 Series and March 19 will be his first time ever behind the wheel of the potent machines. Stutts ranks second on the track's all-time 358 win list with eight victories, including a pair of National Open titles in 2001 and 2003.

"I don't know what all we're going to do with the 410 deal but Selinsgrove is definitely one of our stops," said Stutts recently from North Carolina.

Stutts' 410 ride will be his own popular No. 11, which he has campaigned for many seasons as a 358. However this season the youthful driver has teamed up with former 410 owner Michael Barshinger as the hired gun of his No. 39 on the 358 circuit.

"This is a whole seperate deal," said Stutts of the 410. "It's my parents car and John Trone of Trone Advertising bought the motor for it."

"I just want to get some time with it, we don't really have a set agenda. We need to get comfortable in the car and sort of get our feet wet so this year's going to be more a learning experience than anything else. I've never drove a 410, I don't how much different they are."

"Im excited, I got as good of a motor as you can have, it's a very good deal," Stutts related.

"410 is where we all want to be, you're not going to make a living driving 358. It's just another step to take to get where you want to be."

"Without the 358 expense anymore, it allows us to do this now so it's time. But if it wouldn't be for Trone getting us the motor, we wouldn't be doing it."

Stutts is currently employed at Randy Lajoie Seating in Concord, North Carolina. He commutes to Central Pennsylvania on weekends while fabricating seats for nearly every type of race car during the week.

Drivers will draw for starting spots on March 19 and again for the second date of the series on March 26. Pro Stocks are also on the mid-March programs.
