February 17, St. Augustine, Fla.- The stage is set for a thrilling finale to the ten day long SpeedFest 2000 racing program at Florida Speed Park with the coming of the TBARA Winged Sprint Cars and the American Racing Association Late Model Stock All-Stars on Friday and Saturday.

The TBARA series, headquartered out of Tampa Bay, enters its 2000 season with its first points race at the fast half mile oval in St. Augustine. The machines, methanol-powered open wheel cars with aerodynamic wings to increase traction, are similar to the famed World of Outlaws but are designed for and run exclusively on asphalt. This will be the series seventeenth season.

The TBARA winged sprints will run heat races and their feature on Friday night. Included on the docket with the TBARA sprints are all six local speedway divisions, including Late Models, Modifieds and Trucks, plus the Daytona Antique Racing Association, an eclectic assemblage of classic 50's and 30's cars.

This weekend also brings in the much anticipated American Racing Association Late Model Stock All-Stars for their inaugural series event. The ARA series revolves around the famed NASCAR Late Model Stock, a class traditionally known as a breeding ground for future racing stars. The ARA cars are slightly different with 100 pounds less weight and the addition of a cold air box. They will practice and qualify on Friday and run a 200 lap $5,000 to win feature on Saturday. Saturday's event, a non-points race, is the first of a 17-race southeastern season tour.
