STYRES SOARS TO ASCS SOD WIN WITH BROKEN WING

OHSWEKEN, Ont. (June 12, 2009) - It's often said if one cannot win try to be spectacular. Glenn Styres accomplished both by scoring his second career Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP Friday at Ohsweken Speedway.

Styres rim rode around his own race track to pass early leader Brett Mann, hold off challenges from Ryan Grubaugh and overcome the back mounts of his top wing breaking on the final lap.

"I felt the wing starting to turn up near the end," said Styres after the feature. "Thankfully (the wing) didn't flip up until the last lap."

After Ohsweken officials reworked the race track Mann and Styres' teammate Keith Dempster started on the front row of the 25-lap main event. Mann led the first lap, but Dempster and Mann battled back and forth for the lead until a caution for debris just as Dempster took the lead. During the caution Ryan Hunsinger went pit side and was unable to make it back on track in time for the restart.

Mann got a good jump at the restart while Styres quickly moved through the field using the top side of the track. Stryes went from fourth to second in two corners and set sail after Mann. Quickly catching Mann, Styres was held up a couple of times in lapped traffic and allowed Mann to get away. After a mid-race caution for James Evans, Styres had a clear track and took the lead from Mann.

From there Styres stretched out his advantage while Grubaugh moved Mann back to third. A late race caution for another spin by Evans allowed Grubaugh to close the gap, but was unable to take advantage as Styres pulled away.

Then after taking the white flag Styres wing began to wobble going through turns one and two and down the backstretch. Then while going through turns three and four the rear portion of his wing tree snapped and flipped the wing into an inverted position. Styres cruised across the finish line just ahead of Grubaugh, Mann, Dustin Daggett, and Mikey Kruchka from 18th starting position to fifth for hard charger honors.

The race to the SOD cup continued to change at Ohsweken. After Gregg Dalman capitalizing on Mann's bad luck last week at I-96 Speedway to take the point lead Mann took the lead back with his third place finish as Dalman finished 11th.

Daggett, Jared Zimbadi, and Dempster won heat race events for the 20 car field. Daggett won the fast car dash.
