DAGGETT SNARES ASCS SOD WIN AT CRYSTAL; DALMAN TAKES SHORT TRACK CHALLENGE TITLE

CRYSTAL, Mich. (September 5, 2009) - Dustin Daggett won Saturday night's Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP feature at Crystal Motor Speedway. The victory completed a season sweep for Daggett of all three ASCS SOD features with the Mott Motorsports Gaerte powered Maxim Chassis.

The night also crowned the first mini-series champion for the 2009 season with the ASCS Sprints on Dirt as Gregg Dalman clinched the MAHLE/Clevite Short Track Challenge title. The four points Dalman secured by winning the previous night's event at Winston Speedway were the difference between himself and Daggett for the title.

Daggett and Davey Brown started on the front row for the 25- lap feature that took three tries to get started after Jake Stebner slid off the track in turn three and hit a dirt pile and Ryan Grubaugh tangled with other cars and ended up knocking the front end out of his car. Stebner restarted while Grubaugh headed pitside.

Daggett led lap one and pulled away to a commanding lead. Steve Irwin went in immediate pursuit of Daggett.

The red flag appeared six laps later when Jake Stebner hooked the curb between turns one and two and went for a nasty end over end flip.JStebner emerged uninjured from his battered race car.

Daggett continued to dominate on the restart, but Dain Naida and Ben Rutan started to work through the field. Naida, who started seventh moved past Irwin for second using the bottom of the track.

With Daggett checked out the field slowed again when point leader Brett Mann lost a right rear wheel in turn one Mann went pitside and was unable to continue.

Daggett used a six car cushion to stretch his lead after the restart and eventually lapped up to eighth place. Irwin was able to catch Naida in slower traffic and take away the second spot on the least lap. Naida, Rutan, Dalman, and Mike Daggett rounded out the top five Rutan picked up hard charger honors.

Dustin and Mike Daggett kept victories in the family by winning the first and second heat race. Robert Huisken also scored a heat race win while former SOD champion Jody Hunt won the B-Main and Mann won the dash.

Marques Huffer tangled with fellow rookie of the year candidate Matt Lumbert and flipped in turn four. Both drivers were uninjured.
