Corunna & Merritt on Tap for ASCS Sprints on Dirt
TULSA, Okla. (August 7, 2006) -- The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz fire back into action with a pair of events this Thursday and Saturday night in Michigan.
Thursday night, the series makes its annual stop at the 0x00bc-mile, semi-banked Shiawassee County Fairgrounds dirt oval in Corunna, MI. Then on Saturday night, it's off to Merritt, MI, for the third and final stop of the year atop the 0x00bc-mile, semi-banked Merritt Speedway clay oval.
Manitou Beach, MI, hotshoe Ken Mackey will try to hang on to his series point lead, which was withered to just 40 points in recent weeks, during the pair of events. Nipping at his heels in second is "The Tilbury Tornado", Kyle Patrick of Tilbury, ONT.
Just five more points back in a tight points race is Gary Fast of Kalkaska, MI, with former series champion Dain Naida of Belleville, MI, another seven markers back in fourth.
Gregg Dalman of Lyons, MI, enters the weekend ranked fifth in points, with the balance of the current top ten including Kevin Atkins (Warsaw, IN), Joe Bares (Traverse City, MI), Ryan Grubaugh (St. Johns, MI), Louie Carufel (Port Huron, MI) and Davey Brown (Eaton Rapids, MI).
Also expected are two-time series champion Dustin Daggett of Portland, MI, and defending series champion Tim Norman of Warsaw, IN, among others.
J.R. Stewart topped the ASCS Sprints on Dirt feature at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds in 2004 with Steve Irwin victorious last year. At Merritt Speedway, Dustin Daggett raced from 17th to win the June feature with Ryan Grubaugh scoring his first career win in July.

The 2006 Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz slate consists of approximately 30 nights of racing at fourteen different tracks throughout Michigan, Ohio and Canada.
In its 15th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing in the United States, the American Sprint Car Series will present approximately 180 nights of racing at nearly 100 tracks throughout 27 different states and Canada in 2006 including the National Tour and its Regional Tours (Gulf South, Mid-South, Midwest, Northern Plains, Patriot Sprint Group, Rocky Mountain, Sooner, Southern and Sprints on Dirt).
