Dalman Storms to ASCS Sprints on Dirt Victory at Cherry Speedway

FIFE LAKE, Mich. (June 6, 2008) -- Gregg Dalman dominated Friday night's Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz feature event at Cherry Speedway. With heavy thunderstorms virtually surrounding the 1/3-mile oval with lightning illuminating the sky, Dalman drove off from his outside front row starting position and held off three-time and defending champion Tim Norman during a late race restart in his BDI, Pro-Mec, Hastings, Engine Pro sponsored Maxim Chassis.

"It's been a while since we have won here," said Dalman. "I raced down in Ohio all last year and learned to be easier on the throttle. That really helped tonight".

Northern Michigan resident Joe Bares and Dalman started on the front row for the 25-lap main event. Dalman got the jump into turn one and quickly opened up a straightaway lead. Ryan Grubaugh eventually disposed of Bares and set sail after Dalman. After a mid-race restart for point leader Ben Rutan's spin between turns three and four that left one lapped car between Dalman and Grubaugh. Grubaugh disposed of the lapped car in time for the caution flag to reappear and allow him close in on Dalman's back bumper.

During the ensuing restart Grubaugh slid off the edge of the track and allowed Norman, who started seventh, into the second spot. Then with eight laps the go the caution appeared for Gary Fast sliding off the track in turn three. The caution set up an eight-lap shootout between the top three drivers. Dalman was up to the task pulling away from Norman to the victory. Grubaugh, Naida, and Brett Mann rounded out the top five.

The heat race events were won by Norman and Bares. The fast car dash was canceled due to rain in the area.

Saturday the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz tour continues at the 0x00bd-mile I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan. For additional information regarding the American Sprint Car Series is available at www.ascsracing.com.
