Sooner State Set for Blast of O'Reilly Sprint Bandits TNT!
TULSA, Okla. (August 16, 2005) -- Wednesday and Thursday will both be explosive nights within the borders of Oklahoma as the O'Reilly Sprint Bandits Tour 'N Topless Rounds Three and Four light up the clay ovals at Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway and Tulsa Speedway.
With the first two of six events in the books for the inaugural Sprint Bandits "TNT", Levi Jones of Olney, IL, looks for his third triumph in as many events as the series takes to State Fair Speedway on Wednesday night, marking the first time in the track's storied history that non-wing 410-ci Sprint Cars have tackled the 3/8-mile clay oval.
The next night, the wingless warriors charge up the Turner Turnpike to battle it out atop the semi-banked 3/8-mile Tulsa Speedway oval, setting the stage for the "TNT" concluding double at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, KS, on Friday and Saturday night, with Saturday's big finale featuring a $10,000 winner's share.
After collecting a $30,000 victory in the first-ever "TNT" event at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, IA, on August 9, Jones made it two in a row by topping a thriller in the inaugural Huskerland Non-Wing 410 Sprint Car Nationals at Nebraska Raceway Park's I-80 Speedway on Monday night.
Sweeping the opening pair of events, Jones holds the early point lead by 20 markers over Jon Stanbrough of Jamestown, IN. Campbell, CA, shoe Bud Kaeding is third after the first two rounds, with Dickie Gaines of Mitchell, IN, and Justin Marvel of Pittsboro, IN, tied for fourth.
Others chasing the balance of Sprint Bandits "TNT" include Indiana racers Dave Darland and John Scott, California shoes Brad Sweet, Tyler Spath, Steve Ostling and Tony Everhart, Arizona's Charles Davis, Jr., and Mike Martin, Missouri's Jesse Hockett, Oklahoma's Zach Chappell and Rodger Eckhardt, Texan Travis Rilat and Kansan Michael Woodruff.
Others expected to join the "TNT" roster during Oklahoma action include Nick Smith, Danny Jennings, Sean McClelland, Kerry McAlister, Sean Walden and Albuquerque's "Young Guns", Jason Tanner and Jon Taylor.
Both the Oklahoma City and Tulsa events will feature the use of the Sprint Bandits format of heat races and a like number of qualifying races, with total passing points from heats and qualifiers determining feature lineups.
