TULSA, Okla. (May 11, 2004) - The O'Reilly Sprint Bandits fire back into action this Friday and Saturday night at Little Rock's I-30 Speedway as the two-day event marks the long-awaited return of 410-ci Sprint Car action back to the Arkansas quarter-mile clay oval.
A sweep of the weekend's action could net a driver $8,500 in winnings plus contingencies, including $2,500 to win Friday's preliminary feature and $6,000 to win Saturday night's finale. Saturday night's winner will also snare a provisional starting position for the 17th Annual Short Track Nationals, which offers $10,000-to-win and $1,700-to-start in the STN main event on October 30.
An extra $500 is also up for grabs each night for the top-finishing 360-ci entry.
Both nights of action will include a full card of racing featuring the O'Reilly Sprint Bandits innovative format, including heat races, qualifying races and features. After drawing for starting position, passing points are utilized in heat races with a like number of qualifying races lined up fully inverted based upon passing points earned in heat races. Points from both heat races and qualifying races are then tallied to determine feature lineups. The top four finishers in Friday night's feature will be locked into Saturday night's main event, with the balance starting from scratch on Saturday night.
Sprint Car legend Sammy Swindell will try to defend his early-season O'Reilly Sprint Bandits points lead as he contends with a loaded field consisting of more than 30 cars each night. While Swindell swept the series' opening weekend at Devil's Bowl Speedway on March 19-20, a number of other top shoes will be looking to enter their name in the Sprint Bandits victory ledger, including Gary Wright, Travis Rilat, Shane Stewart, Aaron Berryhill, Zach Chappell, Jerrod Hull, Darren Stewart, Jan Howard, Dale Howard, Toby Brown, Danny Jennings, Nick Smith, Tony Bruce, Jr., Jason Martin and Sean Walden.
A number of 360-ci powered machines will make a run for the 360 bonus each night as well, including Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., Tim Crawley, Pete Butler, Lewis Jenkins, Jr., Bryce Vowan and Justin Sturch.
Pit gates open at 5:00 p.m. each night, with racing set to begin at 7:30 p.m. both nights.
I-30 Speedway is located seven miles southwest of Little Rock off I-30 Exit 126 (County Line Road). Tickets for Friday night, May 14, are just $10 for adults, with children 6-12 just $1 when accompanied by an adult.
