TULSA, Okla. (May 16, 2006) -- Among the most heated championship point races in the country, the Heintz Performance American Sprint Car Series Southern Tour makes its debut at Lavonia Speedway in Lavonia, GA, this Saturday night.

With three ASCS Southern Tour events in the books, three different drivers have picked up feature wins, including Scott McClaren, Johnny Bridges and Brian Smith.

And the points race couldn't be any closer, with McClaren, Bridges and Butch Pendergrass tied for the lead entering this Saturday night's event. Jimmy Burns is just 20 points off the lead pace in fourth, with Jeff Young and Dale Arnold tied for fifth just two more points back.

The balance of the top ten includes Bronzie Lawson, Coby Adams, Doug Gold and Tim Perry.

A stout field of entries is expected for the series debut atop the slightly banked, 3/8-mile Lavonia Speedway clay oval, with racing action set to go green at 7:00 p.m.

Lavonia Speedway is located off I-85 Exit 177, then 5.1 miles south on State Road 77, then 0.6 mile west on SR 77 connector, then south. For more information, contact the track at 706-356-2220.
