ASCS Southern Tour Finale at Lowe's Motor Speedway This Weekend
TULSA, Okla. (October 24, 2005) -- The Heintz Performance American Sprint Car Series Southern Tour puts the wraps on the 2005 racing season with this weekend's World Short Track Championship at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC.
With the series championship hanging in the balance, more than 25 drivers have pre-entered for this weekend's racing action atop the 4/10-mile, semi-banked clay oval. Heat races will be contested on Friday night, with the season-ending "B" and "A" Features on Saturday night.
The series regular forces will be joined by top shoes including New Jersey's Kevin Welsh, Maryland's Brooke Bowman, New York's Jeff VanDusen, Ohio's Nick Mulheim and Mississippi's Shane Morgan.
Hailing from Mooresville, NC, Scott Young enters the season finale with a slim 20-point advantage over teammate Coby Adams. Young has finished no worse than fourth in five ASCS Southern Tour feature events, with a feature win coming at Wythe Raceway in Wytheville, VA, on July 30. Other Southern Tour feature winners this season include Mike Brecht, Danny Martin, Jr., Steven Graham and Brooke Bowman.
While Young and Adams lead the way into the weekend, Virginia's Mary Anne Williams enters the weekend ranked third in points, just 52 points out of the lead. Just four points behind Williams is Doug Gold, with Butch Pendergrass rounding out the current top five.
Others in the current top ten include Danny Mercy (Warrenton, NC), Dustin Apple (Elon, NC), Philip Hearp (Danville, VA), Tim Perry (Mooresville, NC) and Eddie Hamilton (Lexington, NC).
Both nights of racing action are slated to get under way at 7:30 p.m.
