SOUTHERN ONTARIO SPRINTS 05/09/98 - Lehman takes A-main

CHATHAM ON- Southern Ontario Sprints opened the race season under clear skies at South Buxton Speedway Saturday evening which was originally scheduled for May 2. A small field of cars competed in the first of fourteen scheduled points events in Ontario.

Feature winner Joel Lehman started from outside of the first row along side of 1997 Southern Ontario Sprints champion John Reigling. Reigling jumped to an early lead with Lehman close behind. A few laps into the race Lehman had taken over the lead. Reigling eventually retired with problems. The A-main event was stopped once for a flip between turns one and two. The race was restarted with five laps remaining. Second place finisher Matt Fortner challenged Lehman but could not take the top position. This allowed Lehman to finish with a comfortable lead.

"We had some drive line trouble in the qualifying race" Lehman stated. "Starting up front and improving chassis setup before the feature gave us the opportunity to win."

Next event is scheduled for May 23/98 at South Buxton.
