Back by popular demand: ASCS goes wingless again!
TULSA, Okla. (June 25, 2003) - With the American Sprint Car Series recent venture into non-wing racing generating an overwhelming positive response from fans and competitors alike, the ASCS will go wingless for a second time, as American Bank of Oklahoma presents the ASCS Sooner Region non-wing event at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, OK, on Saturday night, July 19.
The ASCS presented its first non-wing event on May 10 at Creek County Speedway, marking the first wingless event in the 12th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the ASCS. The event was a tremendous success, drawing a stout field of cars and a packed grandstand.
The fans didn't go away disappointed either, as the main event featured battles for position throughout the pack the entire race, with Travis Rilat emerging from a three-car scramble for the lead late in the race to post the victory from his 13th starting slot.
With drivers and fans clamoring for more wingless racing, Creek County Speedway has opted to make the July 19 ASCS Sooner Region event, presented by American Bank of Oklahoma, another non-wing affair. Battling for victory honors in the second wingless ASCS event will be all the top stars of the ASCS Sooner Region, including current point leader Kevin Ramey of Ft. Worth, TX, defending series champion Danny Jennings of Norman, OK, and 2001 ASCS National Rookie of the Year Robert Sellers of Mustang, OK, among others.
The Saturday, July 19, event will mark the ninth of 15 scheduled point races for the competitive ASCS Sooner Region. Racing action is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
Creek County Speedway is located twelve miles southwest of Tulsa, one mile west of I-44 Exit 211 on State Road 66. For more information, contact the track at 918-247-6675 or 918-838-3777.
