ASCS Sooner Region Ready to Slug it Out at Mid-America
TULSA, Okla. (May 1, 2006) -- The tension runs high in Sooner territory, as Sean McClelland and Kevin Ramey renew their rivalry in this Saturday night's American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region outing at Mid-America Speedway in South Coffeyville, OK.
Little more than a week ago, the pair got together while dicing for the lead at Lawton Speedway, then banged wheels again on the cool down lap. Both drivers came away from the event feeling that they owe the other driver on the track.
With a sweep of the recent Oklahoma City-Lawton ASCS Sooner Region double, Collinsville, Oklahoma's McClelland moved atop the Sooner Region point charts. The defending Sooner Region champion, McClelland also ranks among the top ten in ASCS National points.
Ramey, who hails from the south side of the Red River in Fort Worth, TX, currently sits third in Sooner Region points, 30 points off McClelland's pace as he pursues a third Sooner Region crown.
Sandwiched between the feuding pair is 20-year-old Sunnyvale, TX, hotshoe Sam Hafertepe, Jr., who is just eight points behind McClelland entering Saturday night's card. Hafertepe topped the series season opener at Fort Worth's Cowtown Speedway.
Tulsa's Brian McClelland enters the weekend ranked fourth, with Burleson, TX, shoe Johnny "Baja" Miller currently fifth.
The balance of the current top ten includes 2001 Sooner Region champion J.P. Bailey (Fort Worth, TX), 16-year-old Dex Eaton (Owasso, OK), Justin Melton (Flower Mound, TX), Gavin Punch (Collinsville, OK) and Oklahoma City's Jimmy Taylor.
Other top contenders expected at Mid-America Speedway on Saturday night include 13-year-old National Tour contender Trey Robb, Cody Wampler, Michael Brown, Travis Jenkins, Forrest Sutherland and Larry Carter.
Saturday's racing action at Mid-America Speedway is slated to get under way at 7:00 p.m.
The semi-banked, 3/10-mile Mid-America Speedway clay oval is located one mile south of the Oklahoma-Kansas state line on US 169, then 0.7 miles west. For more information, contact the track at 918-255-6698.
