Fantastic Ending to Perfect Night at Skagit Speedway
Alger, WA 5/7/05 -- A full field of racecars, a huge crowd and exciting racing in all four divisions made for the perfect race night at Skagit Speedway. The weather was muggy all day and it made for a great racetrack, smooth and racy all night
Coming into the night third in points in the Foley RV 410 Sprints, Barry Martinez made the most of a great starting position and held off hard charging Kyle Johnson for his first win of the season. With points leader March Huson finishing fourth Martinez made up ground in the points chase. 410 Rookie Danny Bullock finished third. In the heat races, Johnson and Martinez took the wins. Hard Charger for the night was Huson with 11.
Four cars duked it out over the last 10 laps for the Budweiser 360 Sprint car win. Veteran Alan Munn held off the furious charges of Brock Lemley, Travis Jacobson and Brandon Harkness for the win. Marc Huson, Brian Scott, and Dan Pierson captured heat race wins. The B Main win went to Harkness with Travis Rutz second and Brian Kirkpatrick third. Hard Charger was Brandon Harkness with 12 positions gained.
The Cook Road Shell Sportsman Sprint main event Kevin Smith led every lap working traffic smoothly for his first win of the season. Andrea Smith was second with rookie Colton Heath getting his best finish ever in third. Heat races were won by Steve James, Karl Franssen, and Kevin Smith. The Hard Charger point's leader for the evening was a tie with Colton Heath picking up 7 positions and Kelsey Carpenter duplicating the feat.
For the Pioneer Ford Outlaw Hornets, two different winners in two different weeks. Bill Tomer drove the family station wagon to first followed by John Piazza and Bill Cameron. Tomer won the heat.
Round 4 of the Skagit Racing Series resumes with all four divisions of racing next Saturday night, May 14th. Gates open at 6 with racing at 7:30 p.m.
