SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- For the first time in many years, Selinsgrove Speedway officials will hold a practice day open to all full-size race cars this Saturday, March 23 from 2-5 p.m.

Drivers in their respective divisions will be given multiple rounds of practice laps during the afternoon's test-and-tune session. Practice day will feature free grandstand admission.

Grandstand and pit gates will open at 1 p.m.

Practice day will give teams the opportunity to dial in their race cars for the track's 2002 season opener scheduled for Saturday, March 30 at 6 p.m.

The opener will feature a regular four division show of sprint cars, late models, pro stocks and the new roadrunners.

TJ Stutts of Etters drove to a convincing win in the sprint car opener last March 31. The victory marked the first of the 21-year-old's career at the track.

Stutts became the track's 25th different opening day sprint car winner since 1963. Last year the 358-powered sprint cars replaced the 410 sprint cars as the headline open wheel division at the Snyder County oval.

On six occasions, the driver who won the sprint car opener also went on to win that season's track title. Ray Tilley accomplished the feat in 65, 66 and 68. Mitch Smith won the opener and title in 1971, as did Barry Camp in 1981 and Cris Eash in 1993.

Jim Yoder of Selinsgrove won the opening day late model feature last year and subsequently won the following week's main event as well. Tom Clark of Pottsgrove is the defending pro stock opening day winner.

Grandstand and pit gates will open at 4 p.m. Practice laps are slated for 5:30 p.m., with the season's first qualifier scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Co-promoters Charlie Paige and Earl Zechman announced general admission for a regular show this season has been reduced to $8.

Selinsgrove Speedway will switch to its regular 7 p.m. start time beginning Saturday, April 20.

Following two cancellations due to inclement weather, Selinsgrove Raceway Park will attempt to complete the first go-kart racing program of the season this Sunday, March 24 at 1 p.m.

Sunday's program will also be a practice day for micro sprint cars. Gates open at 10 a.m.

Raceway Park switches to weekly Friday night competition on March 29 featuring the first point race of 2002 for the go karts and micro sprints. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with racing at 7:30 p.m.
