NAGY WINS WHITCOMB SPRINT CAR MEMORIAL

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- In his first visit to Selinsgrove Speedway this season, Kevin Nagy of East Brunswick, NJ, set fifth fastest time in qualifying, won his heat race and then won the 2nd Annual Joe Whitcomb Memorial for Sprint Cars Saturday night.

The win was the first of Nagy's career in 358 sprint car competition at the wheel of the Nagy Excavating No. 45. Nagy became the track's sixth different sprint car winner this season in the 30-lap tribute event to the late sprint car driver Joe Whitcomb.

Mike Walter of Penns Creek was the fast qualifier with a lap time of 18.330.

Tony Adams of Sunbury won his second 25-lap late model feature of the season. AJ Stroup of Evandale also won his second 15-lap pro stock feature this year.

The rescheduled 12-lap roadrunner event from June 4 was won by Keith Bissinger of Orangeville, while Matt Keister of McClure won his first career roadrunner race in the eight-lap abbreviated main event.

Selinsgrove Speedway will present the Firecracker 40 for sprint cars this Saturday, June 25 at 7 p.m. The "40" sponsored by Salem RV Center and Keller's Auto Body will pay $2,000 to win. Joining the sprint cars will be the late models, pro stocks and roadrunners.

Polesitter Jason Shultz powered into the lead at the start of the sprint car tribute event. Shultz was chased by second-place starter Kevin Nagy and third-place starter Blane Heimbach.

On the sixth circuit, Shultz made contact with the fourth guardrail and eventually came to a stop in turn two with a flat tire. Nagy was able to drive by Shultz's disabled race car for the lead before the caution flag unfurled.

On the restart, Nagy led Heimbach, fourth-place starter Bob Beidleman and eighth-place starter TJ Stutts. Heimbach made a sweeping pass underneath Nagy in turn three just as the caution flag slowed the pace again.

On the ensuing restart, Nagy protected his lead with Heimbach, Stutts, Davie Franek and Nate Snyder navigating their way through lapped traffic. The final laps saw Nagy pull away from Heimbach and Stutts, who held off the challenges of both Franek and Snyder for the third position.

At the finish, Nagy was victorious by 3.35 seconds over Heimbach, Stutts, Snyder and Franek.

Polesitter Dave Shulski led the first three laps of the late model feature before third-place starter Tony Adams stormed underneath Shulski in turns three and four for the lead on the fourth circuit.

Shulski maintained the runner up position until the 15th lap, when sixth-place starter Jeff Rine drove into second. On the 17th circuit, 10th-place starter Scott Haus advanced to third, creating a three-car battle at the front of the pack.

On the final lap, Adams held a comfortable lead while Rine and Haus nearly collided at the start/finish line. Adams was victorious by 1.22 seconds over Rine, Haus, Shulski and fifth-place starter Jim Yoder.

Polesitter Long Savage, Jr. led the first lap of the pro stock feature before his racer stalled on the frontstretch. Second-place starter Mark Aucker inherited the lead at this point. On the third lap, sixth-place starter AJ Stroup took the lead and held off 10th-place starter Troy Miller in the final laps.

At the finish, Stroup was victorious by just .28 of a second over Miller, Meade Hahn, Peanut Heintzelman and Gerald Kratzer.

In the makeup roadrunner event, third-place starter Keith Bissinger led flag to flag for his victory over sixth-place starter Brett Schadel, 19th-place starter Matt Drum, 10th-place starter Brad Mitch and fourth-place starter Cory Long.

In the regularly scheduled roadrunner feature, second-place starter Wendy Swartz powered into the lead at the start. Sixth-place starter Gary Kerstetter led laps three and four, then seventh-place starter Matt Keister powered into the lead.

Keister went on to win the abbreviated eight-lap race over ninth-place starter Brad Mitch. Matt Drum, Swartz and Zack Lingle completed the top five.
