3/31/03, Selinsgrove, PA - This years 2nd Annual Jan Opperman Memorial at Selinsgrove Speedway will include the Alexander Family Dealerships Perfect Performance Bonus, The Lash Service Center Hard Charger Award and free Hoosier Tires for racers.

The 2nd Annual Opperman Memorial is slated for Sunday night, May 4 as part of the Middleswarth Potato Chips Susquehanna Valley 410 Sprint Series. Mark Smith of Newville took round one of the five date series on March 28.

Long renown for supporting the Selinsgrove Sprint Nationals, the Alexander Family of new and used car dealerships based in Sunbury will post $500 as the bonus. Only one man, the fast timer, can claim the money. In order to do so, that driver must continue on to win his heat event, the dash and eventually the 30-lap feature.

In addition, Lash Service Center of Beaver Springs will sponsor a Hard Charger Award for the Opperman Memorial. Up for grabs will be $300. The Lash Service Center Hard Charger Award will be awarded to the one driver who advances the most positions from his original starting position in the 3-lap feature.

Lash Service Center will also pay an additional $50 to drivers finishing the memorial in positions 21 -- 24.

Hoosier Racing Tire will also support the Opperman Memorial by giving away three free right rear tires to the 14th, 18th and 24th place finishers in the feature event. Total value of the free tires eclipses $600.

Former Opperman car owners Luke Bogar and Al Hamilton will post additional contingency moneys.

Bogar will give $99 to the night's fast timer, the heat winners and to the winner of the dash. The seventy-something car owner will also pay $20 to the leader of each lap in the 30-lap feature event. Opperman piloted Bogar's No. 99 machine to a Selinsgrove track title in 1973.

Owner of the 77 currently driven by reigning Chip Series Champion Lance Dewease, Hamilton will post $77 to finish second in the heat events and the dash.

Gates for the May 4 Opperman Memorial open at 4 PM.
