Selinsgrove enacts cost saving measures for 410 series; Spring thaw scheduled for March 28.

3/15/03, Selinsgrove, Pa - In a move to standardize rules and procedures for race teams, Selinsgrove Speedway will follow other area speedways in enacting new rules aimed at curbing costs for all 410 sprint competition waged at the facility in 2003.

The new rules will first be tested in two weeks when the track hosts the first of five dates in the 2003 Middleswarth Potato Chips Susquehanna Valley 410 Sprint Series on Friday night March 28 at 8 PM. Sprints will vie in a 25-lap Spring Thaw paying $2,500 to the winner.

Recently adopted by other area tracks, the new specifications will require that all 410 sprint cars meet a minimum weight threshold of 1,375 lbs. including the driver at the completion of any event. In addition, top wings on the sprint cars will not be permitted to have a turn up or wickerbill at the rear of the center foil.

Similar rules were adopted by Williams Grove, Lincoln and Port Royal Speedways within the previous two months and have been received well by drivers. These rules will be enacted for each event of the five-date Middleswarth Potato Chips Susquehanna Valley 410 Sprint Series held at the Snyder County oval this season.

"We see no reason not to follow the movement toward attempting to address the increasing cost issue in the 410 sprint division," says Selinsgrove co-promoter Charlie Paige. "And it just makes sense to make this move if for no other reason than to standardize rules in the area for all the teams."

Selinsgrove Speedway made the decision to feature 358 powered sprint car competition on a weekly basis in 2001, replacing regular 410 competition which had fallen victim to regularly decreasing car counts, partially due to the cost issue.

The first date of the Middleswarth Potato Chips 410 Sprint Series will also include the pro stock division with gates opening at 6 PM and practice laps slated for 7:30 on the 28th. Sprint competition will be aligned by luck of the draw. <pre> 2003 MIDDLESWARTH POTATO CHIPS SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY 410 SPRINT SERIES
