California' Vs Indiana At The Pas Jack Kindoll Classic!
(LAKE PERRIS, CA November 12, 2001) Perris Auto Speedway will bring down the curtain on the 2001 season this Saturday night with the Annual running of the Jack Kindoll Classic for the SCRA Sprint Cars. The capper on the night and the 2001 season will be a 50-lap main event.
Newly crowned SCRA Champion Cory Kruseman, 31, of Ventura, and 2001 Non Winged World Champion Richard Griffin, 38, of Silver City, New Mexico, will be among the favorites on Saturday night. In addition to local competitors like Tony Jones, Rip Williams, "Super" Rickie Gaunt, John Scott and Troy Rutherford, Kruseman and Griffin will also square off against Indiana's Tony Elliott and Bill Rose.
By winning his first ever SCRA Championship, Kruseman put an end to Griffin's three-year hold on the prestigious crown. Griffin returned the favor two weeks ago at The PAS by dramatically overtaking two cars late in the Oval Nationals to edge Kruseman for the Non Wing World Championship title and the $10,000.00 that goes with it.
Newlywed Elliott, 40, from Kokomo, Indiana, won the USAC National Sprint Car title in 1998 and 2000. He finished third in USAC points this season and picked up four main event victories. That gave him 24 lifetime wins, which is good for 13th on USAC's all time Sprint Car win list. The veteran star was at The PAS two weeks ago for the Oval Nationals, but was plagued by bad luck throughout the weekend and finished last in the 50-lap final.
Rose, 37, from Plainfield, Indiana, is a regular on the Stoops Freightliner USAC National Sprint Car tour. He finished the 2001 season eleventh in points and had 12 top ten finishes.
Jack Kindoll was a well-known car owner and Sprint Car fabricator. His famous JFK Sprint Cars were driven by a number of prominent drivers including multi-time CRA Champion Jimmy Oskie of Downey. Kindoll's wife, Wilda, still runs JFK Company and is a regular working in the Perris Auto Speedway pits at SCRA events.
Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM on Saturday.
Perris Auto Speedway is located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds approximately one hour East of Los Angeles. Take the 215 Freeway, exit at the Ramona Expressway and go east two miles to the fairgrounds.
