Jeremy Sherman leads SCRA Sprint Cars into the Pas!
(LAKE PERRIS, CA - March 18th, 2002) After winning both main events at the 2nd Annual Gary Sokola Classic at Phoenix' Manzanita Speedway last weekend, young Jeremy Sherman heads the field this Saturday night when Vista Paint presents the NAPA Auto Parts/Auto Trader Magazines SCRA Sprint Cars at The PAS.
The 25-year old Sherman, who resides in Phoenix, has been on a tear since teaming with car owner Mark Priestley near the end of the 2001 campaign. He captured the prestigious Western States Sprint Car Championship at Manzanita last October and has won the last four SCRA mains at the famous Arizona speed plant. The following week, he went from the "D", to the "C", "B" and "A" mains at the Budweiser/Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply Oval Nationals at The PAS. When the final checkered fell that night, he ended up in seventh spot.
Sherman, also known to fans as "The Shermanator," has trilled the crowds at The PAS with several breathtaking runs around the Riverside County clay oval. The latest came on March 2nd when he started 20th in the "A" main and bravely drove the cushion (outside edge of the track) to a crowd pleasing 5th place finish.
Sherman's main event sweep last week vaulted him to fifth spot in the 2002 NAPA Auto Parts/Auto Trader Magazines SCRA standings.
Competition will be stiff for Sherman this Saturday night as all the SCRA big dogs will be on hand including point leader Tony Jones, three time SCRA Champ Richard "The Gassman" Griffin, defending series Champion Cory Kruseman, all-time PAS victory leader Rip Williams, former SCRA Rookie of the Year Troy Rutherford and multi-time Mexican National Champion Steve Ostling.
Saturday's racing will include heat races, a dash, preliminary mains and a 30 lap "A" main. In addition to the Sprint Cars, the Dwarf Cars will be in action this Saturday. It will be their first PAS outing of the 2002 campaign. Spectator gates will open at 4:00 PM and the first race will be at 6:30.
Advance tickets for Saturday are on sale now by calling (909) 940-0134 or by going to the PAS website at www.perrisautospeedway.com and clicking on the online tickets icon.
