Bourke Best in ASCS Rocky Mountain Region Opener

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (May 14, 2005) -- Patrick Bourke raced to victory lane in Saturday night's season-opening 25-lap feature for the American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region at Sweetwater Speedway.

Bourke picked up first series win since July 19, 2003, while in the process denying young shoe Jake Pierson his first career feature win.

Pierson assumed the lead when early pacesetter Willy Hernandez tangled with a lapped car a handful of laps into the race. Pierson set the pace the next ten rounds before Bourke slipped by and set sail.

Bourke raced to the checkered flag in front of Pierson, with Eric Miler taking the show position. Gary Taylor crossed the stripe fourth, with Nick Haygood rounding out the top five. Completing the top ten were Bob Schaeffer, Paige Lee, Larry Lapoint, Mason Hill and Bill Brownlee.

Bourke, Taylor and Schaeffer were all victorious in heat race action.
