Sweetwater Awaits ASCS Rocky Mountain Region

TULSA, Okla. (August 16, 2005) -- With fourteen events already in the books, the championship stretch drive kicks off this Saturday night for the American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region as the winged warriors take to Sweetwater Speedway in Rock Springs, WY, for the final time this season.

With just five events remaining on the 2005 slate, Thornton, CO, racer Eric Miller enters Saturday's Sweetwater go with a slim eight-point lead over Washington native Gary Taylor.

Keeping the leaders in his sights, Jake Pierson of Bellvue, CO, enters this weekend's go just 36 points out of the lead, with Bob Schaeffer of New Castle, CO, just 26 more points back in fourth.

Denver's Jeff Heffner enters the event ranked fifth, with the balance of the current top ten including Scott Milan (Ft. Collins, CO), John Jacob (Aurora, CO), Josh Fellows (Longmont, CO), Joe Wagner (Denver, CO) and Cyrus Perme (Littleton, CO).

Patrick Bourke topped the series' season opener atop the high-banked, 3/8-mile Sweetwater Speedway clay oval on May 14.

Saturday night's racing action is slated to get under way at 7:00 p.m. Sweetwater Speedway is located off Wyoming's I-80 Exit 104, then 0.9 miles north on US 191 (Elk St.), then 1.1 miles west on Yellowstone Road. For more information, contact the track at 307-352-6789, ext. 200.

The 2005 ASCS Rocky Mountain Region slate consists of 19 events at ten different tracks throughout Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, South Dakota and Wyoming.

In total, including the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour, the Southern Tour and the Sooner, Gulf South, Rocky Mountain and Midwest Regions, the American Sprint Car Series will sanction more than 100 night of racing in 2005 at approximately 50 different racetracks throughout at least 18 different states.
