ASCS Rocky Mountain Region Ready for Thunder Mountain
TULSA, Okla. (July 25, 2005) -- The championship points race for the American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region can't be any closer as the series takes to Thunder Mountain Speedway in Olathe, CO, this Saturday night.
Eric Miller of Thornton, CO, and Washington native Gary Taylor, now from Wheat Ridge, CO, enter Saturday's card knotted atop the series points chase.
Taylor held the series point lead entering this past Saturday night's event at Rocky Mountain National Speedway. However, an early tangle that resulted in a DNF for Taylor opened the door for Miller.
And Miller wasted little time bursting through that door, cashing in his first series feature triumph of the season and moving into a tie with Taylor for the series point lead. Miller, who missed the Rocky Mountain Region crown by just two points last year, has finished among the top three in series points in each of the past four years.
While Miller and Taylor lead the way into Saturday's event, Jake Pierson of Bellvue, CO, is just 32 points off the lead pace in third. Bob Schaeffer of New Castle, CO, is 28 more points back in fourth, with Jeff Heffner rounding out the current top five.
Others currently in the top ten in ASCS Rocky Mountain Region points include Scott Milan (Ft. Collins, CO), John Jacob (Aurora, CO), 15-year-old Rookie contender Josh Fellows (Longmont, CO), Joe Wagner (Denver, CO) and Nick Haygood (Centennial, CO).
Approximately 25 cars are expected for Saturday's event atop the semi-banked, 3/10-mile Thunder Mountain Speedway clay oval, with racing action set to fire off at 7:00 p.m.
Thunder Mountain Speedway is located three miles north of Olathe, CO, on US 50, then 0.7 mile east on Amber Road. For more information, contact the track at 930-323-6494 or 303-857-4683.
The 2005 ASCS Rocky Mountain Region slate consists of 19 events at ten different tracks throughout Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, South Dakota and Wyoming.
In total, including the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour, the Southern Tour and the Sooner, Gulf South, Rocky Mountain and Midwest Regions, the American Sprint Car Series will sanction more than 100 night of racing in 2005 at approximately 50 different racetracks throughout at least 16 different states.
