Ramaker Lights Up ASCS Rocky Mountain Region at Great Falls
GREAT FALLS, Mont. (September 3, 2006) -- Joe Ramaker took full advantage of Tim Gee's late miscue to win Sunday night's 30-lap American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region feature event at Electric City Speedway.
While Ramaker secured his third career ASCS Rocky Mountain Region feature win by leading the final handful of laps, fifth-place finisher Patrick Bourke put the clamps on the 2006 series title, becoming the sixth different series champion in as many years.
Gee jumped into the lead at the outset and paced the opening five circuits before the caution flew for a Dustin Hall spin. On the ensuing restart, Brent Kronfuss charged into the lead and set his sights on career-first series win.
But Kronfuss paced the field for only two rounds before being clipped by a spinning Teri Snedigar and looping his mount. Kronfuss rejoined the chase at the tail.
Back under way, Gee set the pace and survived several cautions along the way, only to surrender the lead when he hit the frontstretch cone on a lap 25 restart and was relegated to the rear.
Ramaker assumed the point and led the final laps to score the win in front of Bill Boyce, Josh Ostermiller, Rocky Borys and Bourke. Kronfuss raced back through the field to snare sixth, with Trevor Kirkland, Geoff Beck, Tyler Pinceman and Paxton Lambrecht completing the top ten.
Kirkland, Ramaker and Boyce each scored heat race wins.
David Hoiness escaped injury after a wild flip over the guardrail, through the fencing and into the parking lot during the second heat race. Chip Roe also scratched from the feature after receiving word that his land in Big Timber, MT, was being evacuated due to forest fires.
