Peebles Punches In For First Top Five in ASCS Competition

July 27, 2004 - Dodge City, Kansas - Rookie Shoe Preston Peebles II not only notched his first top five of his short Sprint Car career, but he only fell one spot short of the top, nabbing an impressive second place run in Sunday night's ASCS Rocky Mountain 30-lapper. Peebles crossed the stripe behind veteran Sprint Car ace Gary Lee Maier after racing from a sixth place starting spot.

The night started out well for the Lubbock, Texan driver as Peebles wheeled his 11p Eagle Sprinter to a heat race victory on a fast rutty Dodge City track. In the feature, Peebles quickly diced through traffic, moving to fourth by the end of lap one. On lap 15 Peebles disposed of the third place runner, with sights set on the second spot. Shortly after, the red lights would flash for a turn 4 flip. On the restart there would be one lap car separating Peebles and the second position runner. As the green flew, he wasted no time over taking both the lapper and the second place spot. The red would fly again three rounds later due to a turn three tumble. Peebles would then have a handful of lap cars between himself and leader Gary Lee Maier. After dicing through lapped traffic, the races final caution came with five laps remaining with Peebles now on Maier's rear bumper. Maier got a good jump on the restart and Peebles was unable to mount a challenge in the closing laps. "This is awesome, the track was pretty rough, but we had a real strong run. This is my first time here and I like the place. This is our best finish yet, and for Gary Lee and I, two Lubbock owned and run cars to finish 1-2 is pretty cool. Gary Lee and his car owner Scott Brown has helped me a lot this year and its much appreciated. Now it's time to go beat them!" Commented an elated Peebles on the front straight following the race.

Next weekend calls for an ASCS National/Sooner showdown July 30th in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and July 31st in Joplin, Missouri. Shortly following the weekend Peebles will head North to the famous Knoxville Raceway for the Brodix 360 Tournament of Champions August 7th-8th.
