Port Royal, PA Port Royal Speedway officials have an ambitious schedule of events planned for January 2003.
Most noteworthy is the annual Awards Banquet January 11 at J.C. Entertainment Center, Mifflintown, PA. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Dinner is served at 7:00 p.m. Ceremonies crowning the 2002 track champions and point fund awards will follow. The night concludes with DJ Mel Thomas providing the entertainment. Tickets are now on sale at a cost of $ 25 dollars each. Persons seeking tickets may leave a message on the speedway answering machine. The office is currently closed for the holidays but will be monitored. Calls will be returned. That phone number is (717)-527-2303. Parties may also contact President Tom Little or PR Director Craig Rutherford for more information.
Interested parties may also attend the Casino Night Fund Raiser held Saturday night Jan 25 at J.C. Entertainment. Tickets are also on sale for that event at a cost of forty dollars each. Tickets are available using the same procedures as the banquet or from Fair Board members. Each admission entitles one person to a meal, snacks and beverages. Cash prizes are handed out from a random drawing. Other small games of chance are also available.
While these two events are important, they are not the only programs the speedway will participate in during January. Staff members will attend the January 4 York County Racing Club Banquet where Outlaw star Danny Lasoski is the featured speaker.
January 18 finds track officials at the Harrisburg East Mall for a one day show geared to men and their toys. The event is hosted by WHP TV 21 of Harrisburg, PA and features a variety of items men might enjoy doing. 2002 track champion Keith Kauffman's Middleswarth Potato Chips show car will be on display at the Port Royal Speedway booth. Schedules, and other speedway information will be available. Ending time is 6 p.m.
Following the WHP show it's straight to Hagerstown, MD for the Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown's awards banquet. Two Port Royal drivers will be honored at that event.
Speedway Officials also plan to attend the upcoming York Dirt Trackin and Harrisburg Motorama shows.
In other speedway news:
Track work has temporarily stopped due to inclement weather. New poles have been set from turn four down the backstretch and await installation of guard rail. Additional poles will be delivered shortly.
The rules committee is studying the proposed changes from other area speedways and the World of Outlaws and will decide Port Royals course of action soon. Rule books are now available but the speedway reserves the right to alter the Sprint Car rules pending other area raceways final decisions.
One change made by the Fair Board at a recent meeting was in season reserved seat ticket prices. The new amount will be $100 dollars per seat and will include admission to the Fair races. This change will eliminate regular season ticket holders from standing in line during the Fair shows and will allow them to go immediately to their seats.
The opening program is Bug Day Saturday afternoon March 15 starting at 1 p.m. All types of race cars are welcome for the practice session. Racing action will begin one week later on March 22.
Marketing opportunities still exist. Interested persons may contact Tom Little or Craig Rutherford for more information.
Make plans to attend these upcoming Port Royal Speedway events. Management hopes everyone had a safe and happy holiday season!
