CARL EDWARDS JOINS ASCS PATRIOT SPRINT GROUP FOR TOUR NIGHT AT BLACK ROCK
TULSA, Okla. (August 7, 2006) -- It is a night of returns at the Black Rock Speedway in Dundee, NY, this Saturday, as Carl Edwards and the Bobcat of Buffalo ASCS Patriot Sprint Group highlight a star-studded night at the Yates County powerplant.
The Bobcat of Buffalo ASCS Patriot Sprint Group returns to its 2004 home track for the thirteenth event of the 2006 season. Black Rock has played host to more Patriot Sprint Group races than any other track in the series four-year history.
Included in the Patriot regulars of 2006 that have won at Black Rock in the past are current point-leader Chuck Hebing, who won there twice in 2004. Blake Breen won this race, known as the Earl Halaquist Memorial, for his most recent victory and his second in as many weeks two years ago. His younger brother Bobby, along with Rich Swarthout, were other then-rookies that captured first-ever Sprint Car wins at Black Rock.
Last year's point champion, Bryan Howland, has historically struggled at Black Rock. Despite winning two mini-sprint races there and having his breakout race there at the Bully Hill Sprint Nationals in 2004, "Flyin' Bryan" still has yet to grace victory lane in a Sprint Car.
Howland is hoping that he can put Palm Beach Grading, his new sponsor, in victory lane for the second time this season though, for what is arguably the biggest ASCS Patriot race of the season. Even if the 19-year-old doesn't put the PBG signage out front, there will be another driver in the field that could.
NASCAR star Carl Edwards will also be sponsored by Palm Beach Grading, as he will be running his first-ever ASCS Patriot race on this major night, driving the Glenn Styres-owned No. 0 sponsored by the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals along with PBG.
Edwards has already driven in one ASCS race this season, competing with the ASCS Sooner region at the Cowtown Speedway back in April, where he won the B-Main and proceeded to finish 10th in the A-Main.
It will be the second night in a row that the NASCAR star will run at Black Rock, competing in a modified match race on Friday; on Saturday though he will compete with some of the best 360 sprint car drivers in the country.
Black Rock Speedway is located on Route 14a in Yates County, just south of the Dundee Town limits. For more information log onto BlackRockSpeedway.net, or call the track at 607-243-8686.
The 2006 Bobcat of Buffalo ASCS Patriot Sprint Group schedule consists of 22 nights of racing at fourteen different tracks throughout New York, Pennsylvania and Canada.
In its 15th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing in the United States, the American Sprint Car Series will present approximately 180 nights of racing in 2006 including the National Tour and its Regional Tours (Gulf South, Mid-South, Midwest, Northern Plains, Patriot Sprint Group, Rocky Mountain, Sooner, Southern and Sprints on Dirt).
