Spring Run, PA_ Past 305 Sprints champion Joe Davis of Lewistown led all but two laps for his win Friday night at the Path Valley Speedway Park, but it was a narrow victory.
"He passed my like a shot and I thought it was all over," Davis said in the winners circle of Shippensburg racer JR Fogelsonger. Fogelsonger found the outside groove on the exceptionally soft Path Valley clay on lap 13 of the 20-lap feature and passed Davis on the top of turns one and two.
Fogelsonger pulled away from Davis on the next two laps and then something broke in his drive train coming out of turn two on lap 16 and his #1 drifted powerless down the backstretch. Davis had started on the outside front while Fogelsonger started sixth. Defending Path Valley champion Scott Ellerman pulled alongside and chased Davis to the finish line but couldn't complete a pass.
Weston Alleman of Newport took the lead on lap five to lead by up to a full turn for his second V-8 street stock win of the season. Defending champion Arlin Brougher of Gettysburg swapped the lead back and forth with Jerry Bard and then led the second ten-lap half of the mini stock feature, and defending champion Mike Beidel of Fayetteville lead start to finish in the four-cylinder thunder cars.
All five features were completed before 10:30.
Next Friday night, May 17, the 358 late models make their first visit this season to Path Valley. The Legends Cars have their regularly scheduled night off and the 270 Sprints and 600 Sprints return from their monthly break.
The next day, May 18, the AMA motorcycles return following the afternoon kart and quad races. Joining the AMA will be a regional motorcycle race for the American Historic Racing Motorcycles Association (AHRMA) featuring classic and antique motorcycles like Nortons, Triumphs, Indians and more. In two weeks, May 24, the 305 Sprints return for their next bi-weekly feature. Grandstand admission for the regular kart, quad and motorcycle racing is still free.
The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike.
