Big weekend for O'Reilly ASCS at OKC & Joplin
TULSA, Okla. (July 28, 2003) - Chili Bowl tickets, two-seater Sprint Car rides and a four-way battle for the point lead ensure plenty of excitement for this weekend's O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour events presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and United Trailers at Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway on Friday night and Joplin 66 Speedway Saturday night.
Bixby, Oklahoma's Darren Stewart leads a tight points race into the weekend, as he sits just 12 points ahead of Travis Rilat. 2001 ASCS National Champion Zach Chappell is just 16 more points back in third, while Gary Wright is just 56 markers out of the lead.
The top guns of the ASCS National Tour will be joined for both events by the ASCS Sooner Region stars. Kevin Ramey of Ft. Worth, TX, currently holds an 86 point lead over defending Sooner Region champion Danny Jennings of Norman, OK, with Derek Drown, Brian Harvill and Robert Sellers rounding out the current top five.
While thirty to forty drivers will vie for victory honors each night, several lucky fans will come away from the events winners as well.
On Friday night at Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway, a lucky fan will win a Chili Bowl Nationals package, including a pair of four-night tickets and hotel accommodations for the event held in Tulsa, OK, in January. The 18th Annual Chili Bowl Nationals will draw well in excess of 200 entries from across the nation to battle over four nights for one of auto racing's most coveted victory lane trips.
In both Oklahoma City and Joplin, fans will also have the chance to win rides in the two-seat Sprint Car provided by Brown Racing Xpress.
All proceeds raised for the Chili Bowl package, two-seater rides and other prizes Friday night in Oklahoma City will go directly to the Children's Miracle Network. Friday's event marks the kick off of Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores annual fund-raising drive for the Children's Miracle Network, a nationwide non-profit organization comprised of an alliance of premier hospitals dedicated to providing the finest care, research and community outreach to help millions of children with diseases and injuries of every kind.
In conjunction with Friday night's event in Oklahoma City, there will be driver appearances at three separate Oklahoma City-area Love's Travel Stops. All three appearances will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A drawing for tickets to Friday night's racing action will be held at each location.
-2001 ASCS National champion Zach Chappell of Talala, OK, and Stephanie Chappell, who is currently ranked in the top ten in ASCS Sooner Region points, will both be at the Love's Travel Stop at I-40 and Choctaw Road (I-40 Exit 166). -Travis Rilat, currently second in ASCS National points, will be at the Love's Travel Stop at I-40 and Morgan Road (I-40 Exit 140). -Seventeen-year-old Cody Branchcomb, last year's ASCS National Brodix Rookie of the Year and currently ranked fifth in points, will be at the Love's Travel Stop at I-35 and N.E. 122nd Street (I-35 Exit 137).
In conjunction with Saturday night's event, Toby Brown will have his two-seat Brown Racing Xpress Sprint Car on display at the Love's Travel Stop located at I-44 and Highway 43 (I-44 Exit 4) in Joplin from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
