Holiday Triple on Tap for ASCS Northern Plain Region
TULSA, Okla. (June 27, 2006) -- South Dakota's Chuck Swenson leads the American Sprint Car Series Northern Plains Region into a busy Fourth of July holiday weekend triple that includes events in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Nebraska.
The triple kicks off Friday night atop the high-banked 3/8-mile Superior Speedway clay oval in Superior, WI, before moving on to the semi-banked 3/8-mile North Central Speedway clay oval in Brainerd, MN, on Saturday night.
The triple then wraps up with a Monday night challenge versus the ASCS Midwest Region in the Annual Lawrence Ideus Memorial Race at Nebraska Raceway Park's I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, NE. The Ideus Memorial offers up a $2,000 winner's share along with other added bonuses through the field.
One-third of the way through the inaugural year of racing action for the ASCS Northern Plains Region, Swenson of Watertown, SD, has broken out to the early lead in the championship points race, entering this weekend's triple 66 markers ahead of Floodwood, Minnesota's Dustin Lindquist.
Sioux Falls, SD, hotshoe Jake Peters enters the weekend ranked third, just 73 points out of the lead, with Curt Lund (Redwood Falls, MN) and Brett Geldner (St. Peter, MN) rounding out the current top five.
The balance of the current top ten in ASCS Northern Plains Region points includes Eric Lutz (Sioux Falls, SD), 18-year-old Lee Grosz (Harwood, ND), Gregg Bakker (Sioux Falls, SD), Jesse Drost (Rushmore, MN) and Bill Boles (Harris, IA).
Friday action at Superior Speedway goes green at 7:00 p.m, with Saturday's card at North Central Speedway slated to fire off at 6:45 p.m. Monday's action at I-80 Speedway gets under way at 6:30 p.m.

In its first year of action, the all-new ASCS Northern Plains Region has a full slate of 21 events at ten different tracks throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa and Wisconsin.
In its 15th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing in the United States, the American Sprint Car Series will present approximately 180 nights of racing at nearly 100 tracks throughout 27 different states and Canada in 2006 including the National Tour and its Regional Tours (Gulf South, Mid-South, Midwest, Northern Plains, Patriot Sprint Group, Rocky Mountain, Sooner, Southern and Sprints on Dirt).
