ASCS Northern Plains Set Kicks off Tuesday at I-90

TULSA, Okla. (June 8, 2006) -- The American Sprint Car Series Northern Plains Region is gearing up for a three-race set of events next week, with Tuesday and Thursday shows in South Dakota before moving on to Iowa on Friday night.

The triple kicks off at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, SD, on Tuesday night, before moving on to Park Jefferson Speedway in Jefferson, SD, for the annual North-South Sprint Car Challenge on Thursday night. The triple wraps up with the series debut atop the high-speed Crawford County Speedway half-mile oval in Denison, IA, on Friday night.

The ASCS Midwest Region joins forces with the Northern Plains Region for the final two legs of the triple at Park Jefferson and Crawford County.

With three events in the books for the ASCS Northern Plains Region, Watertown, South Dakota's Chuck Swenson leads a strong contingent of expected entries into I-90 Speedway on Tuesday night. Swenson earned a runner-up finish in the series season opener at Nebraska Raceway Park's I-80 Speedway season opener on April 15, an event that attracted 69 entries, then picked up his first series win this past Friday night over a 40 car field at Minnesota's Jackson Speedway.

Swenson placed sixth in the second night of Jackson action, good enough to hold a four-point lead over Sioux Falls, South Dakota's Jake "The Snake" Peters entering next week's action. Minnesota's Dustin Lindquist currently stands third in ASCS Northern Plains points, with North Dakota's Lee Grosz and Minnesotan Curt Lund rounding out the current top five.

The balance of the current top ten in Northern Plains points includes Jason Linnell, Bill Boles, Brett Geldner, Eric Lutz and Seth Brahmer.

With the ASCS Midwest Region joining forces for the Thursday and Friday events, Missouri's Brian Brown holds a four-point lead over Jake Peters, who ranks second in both Northern Plains and Midwest Region points. Dusty Zomer is third in ASCS Midwest Region points, with Jeff Mitrisin and Mike Chadd rounding out the current top five.

The rest of the top ten in ASCS Midwest Region points includes Jeff Lowery, Eric Jobe, Rick Ideus, Doug Lovegrove and Seth Brahmer.

Louisiana's Jason Johnson and defending ASCS Midwest Region champion Billy Alley of Lincoln, NE, are among those expected to drop in on all three nights of racing action.

Tuesday's card at I-90 Speedway is slated to get under way at 8:00 p.m., with Thursday's event at Park Jefferson Speedway firing off at 7:30 p.m. Friday's action at Crawford County Speedway goes green at 7:00 p.m.

In its first year of action, the all-new ASCS Northern Plains Region has an ambitious slate of 21 events at ten different tracks throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa and Wisconsin.

The 2006 ASCS Midwest Region slate consists of thirteen events at eight different events throughout Nebraska, South Dakota, Iowa and Missouri.

In its 15th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing in the United States, the American Sprint Car Series will present approximately 180 nights of racing at nearly 100 tracks throughout 27 different states and Canada in 2006 including the National Tour and its Regional Tours (Gulf South, Mid-South, Midwest, Northern Plains, Patriot Sprint Group, Rocky Mountain, Sooner, Southern and Sprints on Dirt).
